What started with one little girl’s smile at the sight of a wagging tail has grown into the Golden Goose Project—a mission to connect therapy dogs with kids finishing cancer treatment. Our dogs bring comfort, laughter, and hope beyond the hospital, helping kids step into their next chapter with a loyal friend by their side.

We train therapy dogs that bring joy, stability, and love to kids and families as they step into life after cancer.
Our Story
In January 2023, the elevator doors opened to the words, “Showers Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders.” Lucie bravely rang the bell in April 2025. Life after cancer was amazing in many ways, but it was also scary. The trauma of all she had been through left Lucie with a lot of tough emotions and behaviors. We wanted to find ways to help her bridge the gap. When we learned about the difficult applications, long waiting periods, and high costs of therapy dogs, we were inspired to create a better way.
And then came Carlo.
We hadn’t planned on a puppy, but life had other ideas. Carlo bounded into our family with floppy ears, a wagging tail, and the kind of heart that makes you believe he was made for this mission. From the very beginning, he wasn’t just “our dog”—he was part of a much bigger dream.

Raise a Puppy
Bringing home a puppy is hard work. Raising a puppy for someone else is a labor of love. We will be looking for people who are ready to play this vital role in making this dream come true.

Train the Dog
We will facilitate training and socializing each dog in a loving home and a variety of public environments.

Match with a Child
When a child finishes treatment and is ready for a companion, that is when the magic happens!
While the dogs are busy learning all there is to know about being a top-notch therapy dog, Carlo and Goose will be enjoying their own adventures. The first book in what will be a playful, heartwarming series introduces young readers to a curious little girl and her loyal golden sidekick as they stumble into mysteries, laugh through everyday mischief, and discover the joy of friendship.
These stories are about imagination, courage, and fun that every child can enjoy. The best part is that with every book sold, you help fund the Golden Goose Project, bringing real-life therapy dogs like Carlo to kids finishing cancer treatment.
